gourds Gourds in my Garden . . . dragonfly

Gourds are so easy to grow!  The seeds can be planted directly in the soil or started in pots, and the hardy vines grow amazingly fast.  About the only requirements are lots of sunshine, and a sturdy support to climb - though some do just fine trailing along the ground.  I let them go where they want on a back fence, and they're so much fun.  Feed every couple of weeks, and you won't be disappointed!  It's amazing what you can do with the mature gourds.

These beauties climbed and spread along the fence around our vegetable garden.

The gourds below all grew in some areas we'd had to burn over last year.
We actually just scattered the seeds, without much hope of them coming up.
Amazingly, they took off and thrived!
